X-Men and Mad Max: Fury Road star Nicholas Hoult will soon reunite with his The Weather Man co-star Nicolas Cage for the upcoming horror comedy Renfield. And Hoult cannot wait for audiences to see Cage as Dracula. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hoult heaped praise on the Oscar winner, declaring that there are no “two more iconic things than Dracula and Nic Cage.”

“Yeah, the second Nic Cage experience was incredible. I got to work with him when I was 14. I played his son in a movie called The Weather Man, and I felt so fortunate to be back on set with him because I’m such a fan of his. But to get to work with him whilst he was playing Dracula, I don’t think there’s two more iconic things than Dracula and Nic Cage. So, to put those together and be in scenes with him and just watch all the inspiration and all the things that he brings to the character, the fun of it, the dedication, his love for acting, I just loved every single moment.”

Nicholas Hoult will lead Renfield as the title character, who just so happens to be Count Dracula's lackey. Renfield finds a new lease on life in modern-day New Orleans when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty but perennially aggressive traffic cop. Cage will don fangs and a red, velvet suit to play Dracula, with Hoult revealing that the portrayal will be original while paying homage to Dracula’s historical roots.

“As a person, he’s such a pure soul to be around, and I’m excited for people to see what he’s done. It’s original, but it’s steeped in a lot of history, Dracula history and folklore. So it’s exciting, even though it’s a very bizarre, elevated tone for an action-comedy. So I’m excited for it.”

Directed by The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay, written by Ryan Ridley, and based on an original pitch by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield stars Awkwafina as Rebecca Quincy, as well as Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous, James Moses, Caroline Williams, and Brandon Scott Jones.

Silver screen legend Nicolas Cage has already provided some insight into his portrayal of Dracula in Renfield. And it sounds like everything that a version of Dracula played by Nicolas Cage should be. “[It’s] kind of an amalgamation of a sort mid-Atlantic August Coppola accent combined with some Christopher Lee, with some Anne Bancroft thrown in for good measure,” the actor revealed back in September.

Nicholas Hoult can next be seen in the upcoming black comedy, The Menu. Following young couple Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Hoult) as they travel to a remote island to eat at Hawthorne, an exclusive restaurant run by celebrity chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), The Menu slowly reveals that his approach to cuisine has some shocking surprises in store for the wealthy guests. The Menu is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2022, by Searchlight Pictures.

Renfield is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
