Nicolas Cage will star in The Vanished for Focus Features, according to Variety.

The thriller, written by Larysa Kondracki and Eilis Kirwan, concerns a father who goes in search of his college-aged American-born Muslim son, who's missing overseas.

The film marks the studio directing debut of Hany Abu-Assad, the Palestinian-born director of Paradise Now who drew acclaim with his Oscar-nominated 2005 film about two Palestinian youths drafted to become suicide bombers.

Production is scheduled to begin in spring.
