Every year, hundreds of movies are released to the public. It is very rare for any project to get a perfect score on the critical website Rotten Tomatoes. Nicolas Cage's most recent flick The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is the most recent film to earn 100% on the site. The reviews arrived after the title's debut on Saturday night at Austin's SXSW film festival. The score is the highest for the actor's long career.

So far, only 15 reviews for the motion picture have been written. So, a change in percentage is possible as more reactions come out. However, the early reception indicates a high level of critical acclaim regardless of the final ratings.

A synopsis for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent reads, "Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself who's offered $1 million to appear at the birthday party of a mega-fan (Pedro Pascal). But the fan may not be as he seems, and "Cage" soon finds himself going down a fun-house mirror rabbit hole of his past roles and finding himself in a Cage-style action movie."

John Defore of The Hollywood Reporter described the project as "a romp aimed at cultists who have sought out the Crazy Cage performances and forgiven the misfires in between." Owen Glieberman of Variety called the movie "A commercial comedy that has a delirious good time poking fun at Nicolas Cage, celebrating everything that makes him Nicolas Cage — and, in the end, actually becoming a Nicolas Cage movie, which turns out to be both a cheesy thing and a special thing." Judy Drye at Indiewire highlighted the mass appeal and comedy when she said, "There's something for everyone in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. It's one of the funniest movies of the year."

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is the Best Reviewed Nicolas Cage Film on Rotten Tomatoes

Nicolas Cage

The Unbearable Weight has better reviews so far than all of Cage's other critically acclaimed films on Rotten Tomatoes. Some of the well-received motion pictures include 2021's Pig (96 percent), 2002's Adaptation (90 percent), 1987's Moonstruck (94 percent), 1997's Face/Off (92 percent), 1993's Red Rock West and 1995's Leaving Las Vegas, which earned the actor his first Academy Award win.

After a few years of critical disappointments, Cage has recently been on quite the comeback. In 2018, he starred in the underrated action-horror movie Mandy, with a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Two years later, he acted in the Lovecraftian horror project Color Out of Space, which has an 86% approval rating. He recently earned widespread acclaim for his performance in the previously mentioned drama Pig. Many critics were disappointed that Cage did not receive an Oscar nomination for Pig at this year's awards show. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent seems to be another highlight in a storied entertainment career.

In addition to Unbearable Weight, Nicolas Cage has a couple of other films coming soon. In 2002, he will star in two western movies called The Old Way and Butcher's Crossing. Next year, he will be in the supporting cast for Renfield, an upcoming horror-comedy about Dracula's faithful sidekick. Cage will appear as the famous Count himself.

Highly positive reviews for Cage's latest feature are interesting, considering his initial hesitation to join the project. While speaking to THR, the actor explained, "I turned it down three or four times, I wanted no part of it." Luckily, for critics and fans, he did decide to star in the production.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will come to theaters on April 22.
