Disney is looking to expand it's live-action slate with a new family horror thriller entitled The Night Gardener. It will be based on the book of the same name by Jonathan Auxier. No production start date is set at this time, with Auxier writing the screenplay himself.

The Night Gardener is being developed by Sean Bailey's live-action group at Disney, the same team responsible for Tron: Legacy. The book served as Jonathan Auxier's follow-up to the very popular "Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes". The story of The Night Gardener tracks two sibling orphans who are sent to work at a creepy old Windsor estate. But upon arrival, they soon discover that neither the house nor its inhabitants are what they seem. The two youngsters are soon terrorized by a mysterious haint who unleashes an ancient curse that threatens their lives.

While Disney has been making quite a lot of money at the box office with its recent spate of classic animated movies remade as live-action adventures, this latest acquisition proves they are still interested in developing original content for potential franchises. At this time, no director for The Night Gardener has been set. It isn't known when casting may begin.
