We've known for some time that Ninja Turtles is in development, and we reported in March that Paramount issued a December 25, 2013 release date for the live-action reboot. We haven't heard much about the project lately, although a new report alleges that production may start in Vancouver later this year.

It is rumored that shooting will start in either late summer or early fall, although that timeline has not been confirmed. The project was at the center of a fanboy firestorm back in March, when it was revealed that the characters will hail from an alien race, unlike the mutated teenagers from the original comic books.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing from a screenplay byJosh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol). Michael Bay is producing through his Platinum Dunes production company.

The turtles will be portrayed using motion-capture techniques similar to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was also shot in Vancouver.
