Starring Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) and Andrew Barth Feldman (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), No Hard Feelings is set in Montauk, New York, and follows Lawrence as down-on-her-luck Uber driver, Maddie. On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to ‘date’ their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college. In exchange for a Buick Regal, she agrees to become their son's "girlfriend" and help him to join adult life. But, to her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing.

Directed by Gene Stupnitsky (Bad Teacher, Good Boys) and from a script written by Stupnitsky and John Phillips, No Hard Feelings stars Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman alongside Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Producers), Laura Benanti (Life & Beth, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation), Scott MacArthur (The Righteous Gemstones), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), Hasan Minhaj (The Daily Show), and Kyle Mooney (Brigsby Bear).

No Hard Feelings Is the “Funniest Script” Jennifer Lawrence Has Ever Read

The plot behind No Hard Feelings is certainly a somewhat questionable one, and has had many wondering why an A-lister of Lawrence's caliber was drawn to the raunchy comedy project. Well, it’s likely because the script is the “funniest” one she has ever read. "Gene read the Craigslist ad to me, and I died laughing," Lawrence, who is longtime friends with director Gene Stupnitsky, explained. "I thought it was hilarious, but there wasn't a script or anything. I just thought he had a funny idea. And then a couple years later, he handed me the funniest script I've ever read in my life."

But, releasing a project that has no connection to any kind of well-known intellectual property or franchise can be risky these days. Something that goes double for a spicy comedy. And Lawrence and Stupnitsky are well aware of the hurdles involved. "A theatrical release these days is, uh..." Lawrence has said of bringing No Hard Feelings to the big screen. "It's a test. You get tested publicly, and everyone knows if you pass through," added Stupnitsky at the time. "But," Lawrence continued, unperturbed by the potential challenges that lie ahead, "I feel we're putting our best foot forward."

No Hard Feelings is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 23, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
