Celebrate director Tom Ford's return to the big screen with the new teaser trailer for his haunting romantic thriller Nocturnal Animals. The movie just screened at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The ensemble cast features Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Nocturnal Animals will open in select theaters on November 18th before expanding to theaters nationwide December 9th.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival, Tom Ford also writes this tense drama of shocking intimacy and gripping tension. It explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves.

Nocturnal Animals has one of the best ensemble casts of the fall awards season. Also featured in the movie are Isla Fisher, Karl Glusman, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, Andrea Riseborough and Michael Sheen. Tom Ford wrote the movie based on the novel Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. The first trailer arrives courtesy of Focus Features. This first look footage delves deep into the darkness of the soul, with themes that can only be explored in an R rated movie.

Nocturnal Animals is already being teased as an Oscar favorite. It lands in theaters going up against some quite fierce competition. The first-ever Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to open against Nocturnal Animals, which is proving itself to be some majestic counter programming. The two movies will also have some competition in the coming-of-age dramatic comedy The Edge of Seventeen starring Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson.

Amy Adams is just coming off her role as Lois Lane in the DC Comics adventure Batman V Superman. She will next be seen in the Alien invasion drama Arrival this fall, where she plays a linguist capable of communicating with extraterrestrials. Jake Gyllenhaal is coming off a string of dramatic performances in Southpaw, Everest and Demolition. Nocturnal Animals will prove to be one of the most challenging movies for both actors in their entire career. Take a look at the first trailer here.
