It's a matter of time before we see a new Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but who might it be? For years, one popular pick with fans has been The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. It's a rather obvious pick given the actor's experience playing the tough loner like we've been seeing for the past decade with his Daryl Dixon role, along with Norman's real-life penchant for motorcycles.

Reedus has also been open about wanting to play Johnny Blaze in a Ghost Rider movie. Recently, there have been new rumors floating around of Marvel Studios narrowing down a new actor for Ghost Rider in the MCU. The mere mention of casting this role has brought the Reedus fans back out on social media to show their support, many saying that Marvel needs to cast him now.

On Twitter, fans have noticed that Reedus has been liking various tweets about his potential Ghost Rider casting. This is obviously far from an official confirmation that he's involved, and he could just be helping to support the social campaign to increase his odds of landing the part. In any case, Reedus liking these tweets without saying a word about it only seems to be increasing the rumors that he may be talking to Marvel.

"The Ghost Rider conversation has been coming up for years, and yeah, tell them to put me in it," Reedus told ComicBook.com in July. "I want to play Ghost Rider. That would be great. So, I don't know, call somebody, make that happen. I want to do it."

He added, "I want a fire skull. I want my face to turn into a fire skull and whip a chain around. That would be great... I got 12 [motorcycles]. I'd just pick one. I'll do it, yeah."

Nicolas Cage famously played a previous iteration of Johnny Blaze in a pair of Ghost Rider movies. The rights have since gone back to Marvel Studios, but the character has yet to be given his own movie again. The Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider was later featured in the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and there were plans for him to star in his own Ghost Rider spinoff series at Hulu. The streamer decided not to move forward with the show.

As for Norman Reedus, his time playing Daryl Dixon isn't over just yet, even with The Walking Dead concluding with its eleventh and final season in 2022. There are already plans in place at AMC for Reedus to continue on with the role alongside Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier. Whether that show can go on for another ten seasons remains to be seen.

He is also attached to revisit another one of his most popular roles. Reedus will return with Sean Patrick Flanery in another sequel to The Boondock Saints. Troy Duffy will also return to direct the feature with production slated to start in May 2022. Reedus will undoubtedly be busy for the foreseeable future, but there's no doubt he'd work Ghost Rider into his schedule one way or another if Marvel Studios gives him the call.
