While some audience members thought they were being treated to a real life stunt by the Four Horsemen at CinemaCon, an evacuation of the screening room where Now You See Me 2 was being shown earlier today turned out to be no laughing matter. Lionsgate was in the middle of its big CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. Part of the panel included a screening of the sequel Now You See Me 2. Midway through the movie, the screen went black, the lights went up, and everyone was evacuated due to a bomb threat.

The capacity crowd of exhibitors and industry personnel were told to calmly proceed to the exits and evacuate the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Deadline backs up these claims. There was confusion amongst those in attendance. As the plot of the movie features four career magicians who pull off amazing live stunts, many thought Lionsgate was introducing some sort of live element to the movie in keeping with the spirit of the convention. That turned out to not be what was happening at all.

It became almost immediately clear that the Caesar's personnel were taking this threat very seriously as they helped everyone evacuate the theater in a neat and orderly fashion. No details on what had transpired were made immediately clear. Colosseum ushers and security personnel were overheard saying that three men were observed with a backpack in the auditorium. Those men left the backpack behind and appeared to have vanished.

At this time, the three men have not been located. And it isn't known what was contained in the backpack, or if it was at all a threat to those in attendance. Law enforcement were quick to appear on the scene. The surrounding area was searched, including the bathroom. None of the three men were located.

It is not apparent if this threat was real, or just an abundance of caution on the part of the conference organizers and authorities. We will be sure to update you with more details as the come in. At this time it isn't known if Lionsgate will be able to pick back up with their presentation. Or if the rest of the movie will be screened. In Now You See Me 2, the illusionists (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Lizzy Caplan) known as the Four Horsemen must perform an unprecedented stunt to clear their names and expose the unethical practices of a tech magnate. (Update: After the backpack in question was searched, authorities deemed it wasn't a threat.)
