Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, a.k.a. Moon Knight, May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly, a.k.a. Scarlet Scarab, Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, and Karim El Hakim and F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu, premiered on March 30, 2022. The series brought the sometimes-Avenger, sometimes-Defender into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, and quickly became must-see TV over its six-week run. Despite the character's popularity, Marc Spector (and his alters) had yet to be officially confirmed as returning to the MCU, but that changed today. During the Oscar Isaac Spotlight Panel on Sunday, October 9, at New York Comic Con, the actor finally confirmed what fans have been waiting for, Moon Knight will be returning to the MCU.

"It's not the last we've heard of Moon Knight," said Issac when asked by the moderator if fans can expect to see the character return for a second season on Disney+. However, the actor would not confirm that Marc Spector would be returning for another season, instead just reiterating that it's not the last we've seen of the system that is Moon Knight. NYCC is the first official confirmation that Moon Knight is returning to the MCU. However, several hints have been dropped by the cast and crew since season one ended this summer, such as a TikTok video released by Isaac that shows him and Moon Knight Season 1 director Mohamed Diab apparently on location (and during the panel, the actor dropped the bombshell that he was on set for seven months the first time, so hey, maybe they started scouting even earlier this time).

Could Moon Knight Appear in a Defenders Reboot?

Defenders 49
Marvel Comics

A possible avenue of return for Moon Knight other than a second season could be a Defenders series, special, or movie. Moon Knight crossed over with the "greatest non-team in history" early on in his career, beginning in Defenders #47, "Night Moves!" by John Warner, Keith Griffen, Klaus Janson, David Kraft, Roger Slifer, and John Constanza. Throughout Defenders #48 and #49, Moon Knight continued to interact with the team, whose roster included Valkyrie, Nighthawk, Hellcat, and the Hulk.

Meanwhile, the Marvel Television adaptation of The Defenders featured a team that included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Given that the most recent episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law featured the full re-introduction of Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock (after a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home), perhaps an MCU revival of the Defenders is in the offing... and Moon Knight would be a great (and precedented) addition to the roster!
