A new rumor regarding the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, claims that another beloved Jedi Master will return alongside Ewan McGregor’s Old Ben. Look away now if you wish to avoid any and all spoilers. This latest rumor comes from Making Star Wars' Jason Ward who, while speaking with Star Wars Santa, revealed that Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn will indeed appear in the series.

"Well that's my question about Qui-Gon. I know Qui-Gon's in it, but I don't know if he's a voice-over or if he's a physical ghost. That was a really big scoop, by the way, I just dropped. I know he's in it now. Like I know. I've been told [gives 'thumbs up' sign]."

Ward knows full well the scoop he randomly drops into the conversation, even pointing it out himself. The revelation that Qui-Gon Jinn will make his triumphant return occurred during a discussion over how Jedi Masters past such as Yoda could return in Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Ward stating that, while he knows that Qui-Gon makes an appearance, he does not know whether it will just be his voice or whether we will see the Star Wars prequel in all his glory as a Force Ghost.

Either way, fans will no doubt just be happy to have Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn back. Whatever form he takes.

The idea of Liam Neeson reprising the role for Obi-Wan Kenobi has been circulating for some time, and while the actor has denied his involvement saying, "I heard Ewan McGregor was going to do a series. No, I don't think so. No, I haven't been approached. They don't have enough money. [laughs] I haven't been approached," he has since stated that he would be on board should he be asked. "Sure, I'd be up for that, yeah," Neeson said last year.

Qui-Gon Jinn will not be the only presence from Obi-Wan's past to show up in the highly anticipated Disney+ series. It has officially been confirmed that Hayden Christensen will reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker in the show, though he will, of course, now go by the name Darth Vader. Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has described the Obi-Wan versus Darth Vader moment as "the rematch of the century," which is surely more hype than any Star Wars fan can bear.

Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi begins with Obi-Wan watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, ten years after the events of 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and takes the character on an adventure that is expected to lead into Star Wars: A New Hope. Further rumors have claimed that the series will begin with the character living quietly as “Ben Kenobi,” before being tracked down by a young Jedi named Nari, who decides to find the Jedi Master after being inspired by a message sent by Obi-Wan to his fellow Jedi Knights during the chaos caused by the infamous Order 66.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2022, on Disney+.
