In between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope lies the tale of a rescue mission of Senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) and Queen Breha Organa’s (Simone Kessell) daughter, Princess Leia, as told in season 1 of Obi-Wan Kenobi. But one problem persists: the man hired to find the princess is hiding from the Empire. Indeed, when we first meet him in the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi has a fugitive of the Empire for ten years as a result of the Jedi Purge via the execution of Order 66 under Palpatine's orders.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 was an exploration of the titular Jedi Master's reconnection with the Force. It also functioned as a sort of expansion of both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader's stories, bringing back beloved characters like The Grand Inquisitor, Senator Organa, and Princess Leia, while introducing us to new ones like Reva and Tala. While Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in a second season, it has yet to be confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm. In the meantime, let's look back at all the main characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1, and see how they rank.

7 The Grand Inquisitor

Rupert Friend in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney

Portrayed by Rupert Friend, The Grand Inquisitor is the highest ranking inquisitor of the Empire as well as the leader of the Inquisitorius. This group is at the beck and call of Darth Vader, the Empire’s Commander in Chief. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Grand Inquisitor is charged with hunting Jedi in hiding and either murdering them or bringing them to Vader. As terrifying as Vader is in the series, the Grand Inquisitor’s presence can send shivers up your spine. He’s ruthless in his pursuit of fulfilling the Empire’s mission. In any regime, those in power rely on the ruthlessness of their police to maintain power. Though The Grand Inquisitor isn’t blindly following orders, he knows exactly why he is on this mission, making him all the more devious.

6 Haja Estree

Kumail Nanjiani in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney

Kumail Nanjiani is hardly the first actor to star in both the MCU and Star Wars franchises, but he is the first Pakistani-Indian actor to do so. His transition from Kingo in Eternals to Haja Estree in Star Wars is like an autumn afternoon blending into the evening. As the Empire closed in on the galaxy, a minimal amount of planets became safe havens for people on the run. Seeing an opportunity on Daiyu, Haja decided to run a con. He pretends to be a Jedi who can offer safe passage for a “fair” price. However, when confronted by Obi-Wan, he folds, promising to end his con. Haja reconciles with Obi-Wan after Reva Sevander uses the Force on him. He becomes an ally of his and is entrusted with watching Leia and returning her home. Haja is a perfect example of someone trying to survive in unsure times that transitions into becoming a hero.

5 Tala Durith

Indira Varma in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney

Upon meeting Tala Durith (Indira Varma) in Obi-Wan Kenobi, her position as an Imperial Officer who was helping the Jedi Master may have struck audiences with suspicion towards her true intentions. But her placement in the plot of Obi-Wan Kenobi is immaculate. In fact, Varma revealed to Entertainment Weekly that her character was meant to be a love interest, “[The directors] felt that it was maybe a bit clichéd where always the woman turns up, and they fall in love or whatever. And it's more interesting that this is a woman with agency who is not just going to fall at the feet of Obi-Wan.” Tala joins other women in Star Wars who are fierce and worthy of being inducted into higher rankings among the Rebels and Jedi.

4 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Disney Platform Distribution

Ewan McGregor’s long awaited reprisal of Obi-Wan Kenobi was nothing short of delightful. Obi-Wan is grieving the loss of his friends, family and the life he once knew, and is in charge of overseeing a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely). Despite the wishes of Owen, Luke’s uncle, Obi-Wan is insistent that he be trained as soon as he shows signs of being Force-sensitive. This is why Obi-Wan is hiding away: for his safety, but also to protect Luke and Leia from their father. Of course, Anakin is not concerned with his children at this point, but is using his power in the Empire to hunt down Obi-Wan. The cat and mouse game they engage in becomes an inevitable fight, leaving Obi-Wan with the closure that his friend and brother Anakin is truly lost, and that he cannot save him.

3 Princess Leia

Vivien Lyra Blair in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney

One of Obi-Wan Kenobi's top scene-stealers is Vivien Lyra Blair as Princess Leia Organa. Much like Grogu from The Mandalorian, she has no shortage of memorable moments. Leia, as expected, is full of sass, ingenuity, and a rebellious side, and Blair’s portrayal of the future Senator is powerful. Following in Carrie Fisher’s footsteps is not an easy task as Leia is beloved by all fans. Portraying the young Princess Leia meant that fans needed a strong and believable foundation for Leia, which Blair did with ease.

2 Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader

Lucasfilm/Disney

The Star Wars saga is centered on the story of Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader (and ultimate redemption). From his upbringing on Tatooine to his death, adding to his story has to be precise within the timeline. Consider his appearance in Rogue One, where the story centers on Jyn Erso. The fight scene is imperative because this is the first time he’s seen up against the Rebels; he doesn’t need to be anywhere else in the film. Yet in Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans needed to see why Obi-Wan went into hiding. They needed to witness that final fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin (Hayden Christensen) with Anakin denouncing his birth name and proclaiming he is now and forever Darth Vader.

1 Reva Sevander / Third Sister

Moses Ingram as Reva in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney Platform Distribution

Compared to other villains in the series, Reva Sevander, The Third Sister, is unforgivably ruthless. She hired Vect Nokru and his band of mercenaries to kidnap Leia to draw out Obi-Wan. When The Grand Inquisitor was assumed dead, she took his place. Finally, her reveal as a Jedi child who witnessed one of Anakin’s first massacres was inspired. Her rage against the Empire she serves is along the lines of destroying the regime from within. She is unlike any villain in the Star Wars saga. Moses Ingram’s portrayal of Reva Sevander is beyond brilliant, which is why she takes our top spot.
