With Ghostbusters launched as a successful all-female franchise for Sony, Warner Bros. is moving full-steam ahead on it's girl-centric Ocean's Eleven reboot. Titled Ocean's Eight and headlined by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, this quasi-sequel will begin shooing in October in New York. Gary Ross will direct.

The caper thriller will feature some of today's leading actresses in secondary roles as they pull off the heist of a lifetime. Previously announced actresses Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling will now be joined by Anne Hathaway, singer Rihanna and Asian American rapper and actress Nora Lum, who many know better as Awkwafina. She first made her mark on Hollywood this past summer in the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.

This comedy reboot is still casting even more high-profile actresses to fill out its powerful roster. According to an earlier report from Deadline, Elizabeth Banks was also interested in taking on a role, but she is not mentioned in this latest update, and may simply be too busy at this time with other projects to come aboard. It is likely that the movie will feature cameos from the main male-centric cast of Ocean's Eleven and its sequels, with Sandra Bullock's Gravity co-star George Clooney pretty much a sure thing. We can expect Brad Pitt and Matt Damon to also show up at some point.

2001's Ocean's Eleven, which itself was a remake of the 1960 movie of the same name starring Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who returns here as a producer. New director Gary Ross wrote this updated script alongside Olivia Milch. Ross and Soderbergh are longtime collaborators and have served as each other's second unit directors on and off throughout a variety of projects throughout the years. They also use each other as sounding boards on scripts and other projects.

The pair have been planning Ocean's Eight for awhile. Warner Bros president of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman has also been involved in the process, along with original Ocean's Eleven producer Jerry Weintraub, who passed away last summer. Ocean's Eleven starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Bernie Mac, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner and Matt Damon as a group of criminals who attempt to pull off the daring heist of a Las Vegas casino. It was followed by the sequels Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen.

In Ocean's Eight, Sandra Bullock's character is rumored to be the ex-con sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean. The story is said to center on a group of eight thieves who plan on stealing an expensive necklace from the Met Ball, while framing a gallery owner for the crime. There are ten main roles to fill. With three left to go, it is believed that Jennifer Lawrence is also still trying to be lured into the cast. No release date is set at this time.
