Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the John Scalzi novel series Old Man's War with Wolfgang Petersen attached to direct the feature adaptation.

David Self (Road To Perdition) will adapt the novels, which center on a 75-year-old man who, after losing his true love, is given a younger, genetically-enhanced body to combine the wisdom and experience of older age with the strength of youth. He then joins an outer-space military coalition to protect human colonies where he meets a woman who appears to be a younger version of his deceased wife.

Scott Stuber will produce the adaptation of Old Man's War, which is the first in a series of four books by John Scalzi. This will be the first project directed by Wolfgang Petersen since the 2006 adventure Poseidon.

No production schedule was given for Old Man's War.
