Spoiler Warning: One Of Us Is Lying Season 1When they get detention, becoming a suspect in a murder isn't what high school students imagine will be the outcome. Nevertheless, millions were eager to see the series adaptation of the best-selling novel One Of Us Is Lying, authored by Karen M. McManus. Mystery dramas have a way of pulling us in and keeping us hooked with unpredictable twists and epic cliffhangers, and this teen drama was no exception.

The series began with five students at Bayview High, Bronwyn (Marianly Tejada), Copper (Chibuikem Uche), Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), Nate (Cooper van Grootel), and Simon (Mark McKenna), trapped in detention together. However, when Simon goes into anaphylactic shock and dies, he leaves his four frenemies behind to be labeled suspects in his murder.

Book adaptations are a risky business as lovers of a book may judge a movie harshly if it doesn’t live up to the book’s standards. Many viewers had rave reviews for One Of Us Is Lying, while some book fans weren't pleased. Such fans took to various platforms such as Twitter to voice their opinions, arguing vital details from the book weren’t included in the series. Those who enjoyed the adaptation were viewers who hadn’t read the book. Nevertheless, One Of Us Is Lying was successful enough to get a green light for a second season.

The finale ended with a bang (literally), and viewers are eager to know what will happen in season 2.

Updated July 2022: If you've been waiting for more information on One of Us is Lying's second season, you'll be happy to know we've updated this article with additional details on the series.

The death of a classmate in their presence sent our lead characters' lives spiraling down a rabbit hole of lies, panic attacks, and secrets juicy enough to be motives. After taking it upon themselves to clear their names and find Simon's real killer, Cooper, Addy, Nate, and Bronwyn quickly became a circus act for the rest of the school, labeled as the "Murder Club," a name that promptly stuck.

Losing popularity, college prospects, and relationships were some of the few inconveniences our lead characters faced but finding a murderer that may be right under their noses was more challenging than believed. Being the next victim after Simon was enough to discourage our teen detectives time and again, except for Bronwyn, the brains of the operation, who was determined not to have her carefully mapped-out future taken from her.

The finale left our teen suspects moving from potential killers to covering up a murder together. With it being confirmed that season 2 will begin directly after the events of season 1’s finale, we’re set to jump back into the swing of things as soon as the new season airs.

Erica Saleh, the showrunner, gave us a taste of what to expect in season 2 and said:

"We are happy with the reception of season one and are beyond thrilled that we get to continue our story in season two. We can't wait to bring more mystery to the halls of Bayview High!”

To top that, NBC's president of scripted content, Lisa Katz, called the show binge-worthy and said viewers should expect more twists in the coming season:

“We are thrilled that the compelling and binge-worthy first season of One Of Us Is Lying resonated so strongly with our YA audience. The Fandom behind the series is incredibly passionate, and we can't wait to deliver more twists and turns that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats."

As for the cast, co-stars Marianly Tejada (Bronwyn), Chibuikem Uche (Cooper), Annalisa Cochrane (Addy), and Cooper van Grootel (Nate) are a shoo-in for a return. We may even see Mark McKenna (Simon) return in a flashback since his gossip app for dishing secrets about his classmates was one of the main catalysts for his murder.

Two new recurring cast members were confirmed by Deadline in May. Joe Witkowski, known for his work in The Wilds and Shadow in the Cloud, is joining the cast as Jake's (Barrett Carnahan) brother. Though his name isn't known, the character "has come back to Bayview to find out the truth about what happened to his little brother." The other new character is Fiona, played by Doralynn Mui (Riverdale). Fiona is a new student in school, but that doesn't mean she's afraid of rocking the boat, as the character is described as creating issues for Bronwyn and Nate.

In June, Peacock confirmed release dates for several upcoming series and seasons. In the update, they revealed that the show's second season will premiere on October 20, 2022. The first season was released on Netflix for international audiences in February 2022 after initially airing on the streaming service Peacock in October 2021. NBC Universal/Peacock confirmed season two in January 2022 before Netflix picked up the series for distribution, so we can safely assume that we’ll see season 2 on Netflix shortly after it airs.

Five students walked into detention together, and only four walked out, but their lives were changed forever, and so were ours because we won’t rest until season two is aired. If you're yet to join the murder club, stream the series on Peacock or Netflix now.
