There had been some speculation over whether a third season of One Punch Man would happen following the response to the second series, which was a little on the divisive side. Following such an acclaimed first outing, some of the reactions to season 2 led many to wonder whether the anime would simply be put to bed. But it seems that those fears were misplaced, with the news of a third season sure to have fans excited to see Saitama and the wonderfully absurd world of One Punch Man make a return.

For those unaware, One Punch Man is a comedic action series set in City Z about a superhero named Saitama who, as the title suggests, is able to defeat literally any enemy with a single punch — skills that Saitama acquired by training so hard for so long that he lost his hair and now sports a perfect, shiny, bald head. We've all been there. Often, this defeat concludes with his opponents exploding or being launched into space and due to his total dominance on the battlefield, Saitama is having something of an existential crisis, growing increasingly bored with his gig as a superhero as he awaits an opponent who will be worthy and provide him with a challenge. Along the way, he takes on a disciple in the form of Genos, a 19-year-old cyborg with his own dramatic backstory.

The first season of One Punch Man was handled by the Studio Madhouse, with season 2 moving to J.C. Staff. At present, it is not known which studio will tackle One Punch Man Season 3, nor when it will be released, but readers of the manga will be eager to see what’s in store brought to life on screen.

Not only are we getting the further adventures of the animated One Punch Man, but a live-action depiction is also now in development. After walking away from the upcoming Fast and Furious sequel Fast X, director Justin Lin is reportedly on board to helm the project for Sony.

This live-action adaptation has been written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (Jumanji: The Next Level, Venom), with Ari Arad of Arad Productions on board to produce. No cast members have been officially announced at this time, but no doubt fans have their ideas for who could portray the perfect Saitama and Genos.
