Oprah Winfrey is taking over the world one small piece at a time. To prove it, she has just announced her very own cable channel. According to Variety, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network will debut during the last half of 2009.

OWN is taking over the Discovery Health Channel. Winfrey will be the president of the network. The new enterprise will focus on the lifestyle, self-help, entertainment and spiritual themes Winfrey supports on her long-running daytime television show.

Winfrey stated, "We'll deal with topics such as money, health and relationships. I want to create a niche, a place where people can go to feel better about their lives." No specific shows were discussed in the announcement. One thing is for certain: OWN will not be able to air repeats of The Oprah Winfrey Show because CBS owns the rights to that program.
