Earlier today, Netflix held a special presentation at Hudson Mercantile in New York, where the streaming service provided a first look at some of the new original content coming this year that may appear in a "Recommended for You" row sometime soon. Part of this presentation was the first trailer for Orange Is the New Black Season 5, with the streaming service revealing that the new season will debut Friday, June 9 in all territories Netflix is available in. The trailer itself is only 15 seconds long, with the footage made up of shots from existing seasons.

After the presentation, Netflix debuted this footage on YouTube, which features brief and cryptic looks at several of the cast members. We get to see Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), Nicky Nichols (Natashas Lyonne), Flaca Gonzalez (Jackie Cruz), Taystee Jefferson (Danielle Brooks), Lorna Morello (Yael Stone), Cindy Hayes (Adrienne C. Moore), Maria Ruiz (Jessica Pimentel), Red Reznikov (Kate Mulgrew), Gloria Mendoza (Selenis Leyva) and Dayanara Diaz (Dascha Polanco). The shot of Dayanara holding the gun was from the Season 4 finale cliffhanger.

Orange is the New Black Season 4 ended with a press conference where Joe Caputo (Nick Sandow) announced that the death of Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) was an accident. This lead to Taystee leading her fellow inmates in a prison riot, which was shut down when CO Thomas Humphrey (Michael Torpey) pulled a gun on the group, which he wasn't even supposed to have in the first place. After the gun was knocked out of his hands, Dayanara picked it up and pointed it at his head as the season came to a close. Series star Danielle Brooks dropped the first huge story tidbit from this season on the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild awards, where she revealed that these new 13 episodes take place over a very short period of time.

"Season five is done over the course of three days. You will watch 13 episodes, and find out what happens in the course of three days. So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything."

Netflix has already renewed Orange Is the New Black for three more seasons, bringing its run up to, at least, Season 7, with Season 5 airing this summer, followed by Season 6 in 2018 and Season 7 in 2019. There hasn't been talk of what will happen past Season 7, but it could very well be Netflix's longest-running show to date. Another one of Netflix's hit shows, and one of its first, House of Cards, will also be airing its fifth season, with the streaming service announcing last month that it will debut on May 30, the Tuesday after Memorial Day. The streaming service hasn't announced whether or not House of Cards will continue past Season 5 yet, but if it doesn't that will make Orange Is the New Black the longest running series in Netflix's brief history, but it is already one of the streaming service's most popular and binge-worthy shows.

Last summer, Netflix revealed results of a binge-watching study, where it revealed that 53% of Orange is the New Black viewers have re-watched at least one full season of the acclaimed series since its debut in 2013. The study also found that this re-watching behavior peaks each June in anticipation of the new season, with 21% of viewers stating they planned on re-watching Season 3 before Season 4 started last June, while 41% said they planned on re-watching the entire series before Season 4 debuted. Take a look at the new trailer for Orange Is the New Black before the new season arrives this June.
