The Hollywood reboot/remake machine has shifted into high gear over the last handful of years and now we have a new clip for the remake of the 80s comedy classic Overboard. The new version stars Anna Faris as the Kurt Russell character and Eugenio Derbez as the Goldie Hawn character doing the new tradition of gender swapping the roles. While the trailer gave an overall scope of the storyline, the new clip features Faris and Derbez as she tries to convince him that she's his wife.

While the original 1987 version of Overboard was a zany 80s comedy, the new updated version finds jokes that appear to try too hard with over exaggeration. Fighting against his amnesia, Anna Faris fills Eugenio Derbez in on the details of their made-up Cancun romance. Faris is finally able to convince Derbez that she's his wife by pointing out that he has a Mickey Mouse tattoo on his rear end, to which he agrees, and everything sinks in.

In the synopsis, MGM claims that the Overboard remake is a "fresh take" on the 80s classic, which is debatable. The fresh part that they allude to is more than likely the gender swapping between the two main characters. How long will the fake relationship that turns into a real relationship last? The synopsis reads.

"Overboard is a fresh take on the iconic romantic comedy. In a splashy new twist, Overboard focuses on Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez), a selfish, spoiled, rich playboy from Mexico's richest family and Kate (Anna Faris), a working class single mom of three hired to clean Leonardo's luxury yacht. After unjustly firing Kate and refusing to pay her, Leonardo falls overboard when partying too hard and wakes up on the Oregon coast with amnesia. Kate shows up at the hospital and, to get payback, convinces Leonardo he is her husband and puts him to work - for the first time in his life. At first miserable and inept, Leonardo slowly settles in. Eventually he earns the respect of his new family and co-workers. But, with Leonardo's billionaire family hot on their trail and the possibility of his memory returning at any moment, will their new family last or will Leonardo finally put the clues together and leave them for good?"

Though the original Overboard was not well received by critics or a box office sensation, it became a cult favorite when it was released on home video. Since then, Goldie Hawn has been praised for her performance as well as her on-screen chemistry with her real-life partner in crime, Kurt Russel. The movie even went on to spawn a South Korean sitcom entitled Couple Trouble.

Overboard is directed by Rob Greenberg, who wrote the script with Bob Fisher and Leslie Dixon, with Eugenio Derbez , Benjamin Odell, and Bob Fisher as producers, and Brendan Ferguson as executive producer. The remake hits theaters on April 13th, after getting bumped up one week. You can check out the new poster and clip below, courtesy of the Pantelion Films YouTube channel.
