Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess has signed on to direct Overnight at 42nd Street, which was formerly known as Overnight. Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine 2) became attached to direct the project in June 2014, but it appears he is no longer involved at this time. Will Ferrell was also attached to star at one point, when his company Gary Sanchez Productions was set to produce, but he isn't involved at this time either.

The story centers on a recently-divorced father and son who win the opportunity to spend the night in a toy store, reminiscent of FAO Schwartz. While trying to patch up his relationship with his son, the father must also try to defuse a hostage situation that develops at the store. The plot is described as Home Alone set in a toy store. Disney is looking to cast both the father and son before moving forward with the production.

Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Kitchen Sink) wrote the screenplay, with Neal H. Moritz and Ori Marmur producing. It isn't known when production may begin at this time. Jared Hess' latest film Don Verdean was acquired for distribution by Lionsgate at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The filmmaker is also in post-production on the heist comedy Masterminds, which stars Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis.
