Sam Raimi has been in this situation before, when Sony executives insisted on casting Wes Bentley as Peter Parker in Spider-Man. Although, the director succeeded in landing his choice, Tobey Maguire. As of now, it isn't clear which side will prevail in this Oz: The Great and Powerful casting battle.

Earlier today, we reported that John C. Reilly was in talks for a sidekick role in Oz: The Great and Powerful, although talks have stalled. It is believed he will be offered a role in The Hunger Games as Haymitch Abernathy, which he will likely accept.

James Franco is locked in to star as the title character in Oz: The Great and Powerful, with Mila Kunis set to play the Wicked Witch of the West. Sam Raimi will direct Oz: The Great and Powerful from a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire.
