As Pacific Rim 2, rumored to be titled Pacific Rim: Malestrom, nears production, the cast continues to grow. Director Steven DeKnight has teased that the project has added a new cast member, but sadly, he wasn't overly specific about who it is. What we do know is that someone from the upcoming horror thriller The Belko Experiment is in the Pacific Rim sequel.

DeKnight took to his Twitter account on Monday to reveal that he is very much looking forward to The Belko Experiment, which was written by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. Much more importantly, the director revealed that somebody from the cast of that movie has joined the cast of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, but he didn't say exactly who. Here is what he did have to say about it.

"So looking forward to this. And someone in this cast just happens to be in #PacificRim2..."

The good news is that The Belko Experiment has a very impressive cast and it is very easy to see almost anyone from that movie fitting into Maelstrom quite nicely. The bad news is that with what DeKnight gave us to work with, it is borderline impossible to speculate reasonably as to who it could be. Michael Rooker of The Walking Dead or John C. McGinley of Scrubs and Office Space fame could fit in nicely. Other actors like Josh Brener of Silicon Valley or John Gallagher Jr. of The Newsroom could fit in much like Charlie Day did in the original. The Belko Experiment cast also includes Adria Arjona of True Detective fame and Sean Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Owain Yeoman from The Mentalist, all of which could find a home in the next Pacific Rim.

The first Pacific Rim made $411 million worldwide, which is a pretty decent haul just as a number itself. However, when the reported $190 million price tag is factored in, which doesn't account for marketing costs, the number is much less impressive. It was enough to justify a sequel though, but the shaky numbers have likely contributed to the delay in getting the project off the ground. But the train is on the tracks now, and production is expected to start on Maelstrom by the end of the year.

At the moment, we know that Charlie Hunnam won't be returning for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout John Boyega will be joining the cast as Idris Elba's son. Scott Eastwood is also rumored to be taking on a role in the movie and Ron Perlman's character Hannibal Chau is expected to return. As for what member of The Belko Experiment Cast will be joining them? We will have to wait and see. Guillermo Del Toro, who directed the first Pacific Rim, has remained on the project as an executive producer with Steven DeKnight directing. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is set for release on February 23, 2018.
