Ah, the roller coaster ride that is Pacific Rim 2. One minute it's up, the next it's down. Last we heard, Universal and Legendary are still planning on getting this sequel off the ground. Though, they stripped it of its summer 2017 release date, instead handing that prime piece of real estate to Pitch Perfect 3. While Pacific Rim 2's future remains uncertain, but one thing's for certain. If it happens, it will feature Ayra Stark in a key role.

Addressing his fans on the official Guillermo del Toro Twitter, the director confirmed that if Pacific Rim 2 moves forward, he is casting Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as a Jaeger pilot. He reveals that he recently had lunch with the young actress. And he makes it very clear that he wants to work with her sometime in the near future. Here's what he said.

"Had lunch with Maisie Williams yesterday. Remarkable. Dammit- if PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger."

What isn't clear is whether or not they were actually meeting for Pacific Rim 2. It's believed that the director will next shoot a low budget indie thriller that features very few actors while he waits for Pacific Rim 2 to come to fruition. What's clear is that this meeting went very well. And at some point, these two forces of nature will collide in our favor.

As for this indie that Guillermo del Toro has hinted may be his next project, no story details have been unveiled. There are rumors that he is working on a project described as Splash meets WALL-E, but it isn't known if that's the same thing as this smaller budgeted film. Some speculate that Maisie Williams may be up for the 'mermaid meets robot' movie. Possibly as a lead character.

It's possible that Guillermo del Toro and Maisie Williams were just having lunch together, and weren't discussing any particular project. Maybe they just wanted to meet each other and explore possibilities, as the director has a whole slate of upcoming projects that may or may not happen. These kinds of meet and greet meetings happen a lot in Hollywood, so it shouldn't seem out of the norm. Considering how enthusiastic the director sounds about his new muse, it's possible that something will be announced sooner than later.

Maisie Williams is currently shooting Game of Thrones Season 6, which will air in the spring on HBO. There is the chance her character will be killed off. And if that happens, we're sure she'll get plenty of film offers. She is wanted for the lead role in the video game adaptation The Last of Us, but we haven't heard anything about that project in a while. What do you think? Do you like the sound of Maisie Williams becoming a Jaeger pilot?
