Denzel Washington's second directorial effort has landed two actors. According to Variety, Kimberly Elise and Nate Parker will star in Washington's The Great Debaters.

The period film will revolve around a East Texas debate team that challenges Harvard in the 1930s. Elise is playing Forrest Whitaker's wife, while Parker will star as their son. Denzel plans on playing the coach of the debate team.

Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte will be producing the film through their Harpo films production company. Robert Elise wrote the screenplay, which is based on a true story.

The film does not yet have a start date.
