Paramount Pictures and MTV Films have bought the rights to the Ned Vizzini novel It's Kind of a Funny Story for Misher Films.

The film, being adapted to the big screen by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, is about a 15-year-old who is accepted by a prestigious Manhattan high school and he finds himself battling depression.

The Hollywood Reporter adds in recent months, Fleck, who is also directing the film, has become in-demand after his film Half Nelson generated a great deal of buzz at this year's Sundance Film Festival; Boden co-wrote Half Nelson with Fleck.

No production is set for It's Kind of a Funny Story; Half Nelson, which stars Ryan Gosling, will be released in August by THINKFilm.
