Variety reports that Paramount's redo of Footloose is going to be directed by Craig Brewer from his rewritten script.

A new lead will need to be found now that Chace Crawford is leaving the project because of scheduling conflicts with the CW's Gossip Girl.

Paramount wants Brewer to begin shooting this summer. Casting is set to begin immediately

Originally, Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) was going to direct but this didn't happen due to "creative differences and budget."

Adam Goodman, the Paramount President of production, wanted a more edgier tone than was originally planned for the film. He and Brewer will stick much closer to the original film and not have elaborate musical numbers.

Footloose originally hit screens in 1984 starring Kevin Bacon as a lone wolf who moved to a new town where dancing was outlawed.
