It's a great day in Pawnee, as the cast of the popular comedy series Parks and Recreation all got back together for a must-see special reunion episode. Last week, it had been revealed by NBC that the cast of the sitcom would be reprising their roles for a special episode to help raise money for charity, and the news very quickly went viral with fans of the series very excited to see the reunion. After teasing the special with a promo clip featuring Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, the Parks and Rec special was debuted by NBC on Thursday evening, and you can now watch the reunion special below!

Of course, with no safe way to assemble the entire Parks and Rec crew into one location for a shoot at the moment, the new episode also serves as a stay-at-home special featuring the cast members using video chat to speak with each other. It basically serves to show us how the people of Pawnee are treating our current world crisis, which has affected others across the planet in much the same way. That gives us the opportunity to check in with Ron Swanson directly from his private cabin where he's been hunting his own meat to avoid grocery store trips. "I've been practicing social distancing since I was four years old," Ron says of our current predicament, suggesting he's fully prepared for it.

Prior to the release of the Parks and Recreations Reunion special, series co-creator Mike Schur spoke about the decision to do the special episode with the returning cast members. "I didn't think Parks and Recreation would ever reunite; the show had a point to make and we made it and it ended and there was no compelling reason to do it, but this is as compelling a reason as there is," Schur says of the new episode. Noting how the idea was to show how people may be coping during these times, Schur also adds: "It's about [Leslie] connecting with people and holding that group of characters together at a time when they're unable to leave their homes. That's the running theme."

Originally, Parks and Rec ran for seven seasons on NBC between 2009 and 2015. A big hit with viewers and critics alike, the mockumentary series starred Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope and Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson, with Rashida Jones as Ann Perkins, Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford, Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate, Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer, Adam Scott as Ben Wyatt, Rob Lowe as Chris Traeger, Jim O'Heir as "Jerry" Gergich, and Retta as Donna Meagle. It focused on those working in the Parks Department of the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee.

Given how excited fans of the series are over seeing this new reunion special, one can't help but wonder if there's more we'll see with our favorite people from Pawnee at some point in the future. If the fan response is as positive as it was with the TV series, perhaps we'll see more episodes produced, or at least another reunion special when the time is appropriate.
