Patrick Wilson has signed on to star in Focus Features' Evening, the big screen adaptation of Susan Minot's best-selling novel, according to Variety. Lajos Koltai will direct the film.

Story centers on a 65-year-old cancer patient -- to be played by Vanessa Redgrave -- who reflects on a weekend in her youth when she met the love of her life (Wilson), as her two daughters try to come to terms with her impending death.

Claire Danes, Toni Collette and Hugh Dancy round out the cast.

Minot and Michael Cunningham adapted the novel and will executive produce the movie.

Wilson next stars in New Line Cinema's Little Children, in theaters Oct. 6, followed by Running With Scissors and Ed Burns' Purple Violets.
