Some events test our courage. Some people inspire our strength. And some moments define our spirit. Today, CBS Films has released the first trailer for the Boston Marathon bombing drama Patriots' Day.

Patriots Day will open in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016. This will ensure that it is recognized by the academy for any potential Oscars. It will then open nationwide starting January 13, 2017. Along with the first teaser poster, we also have the teaser poster.

Peter Berg directs Patriots Day. He is working from a screenplay he co-wrote alongside Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer. The trio's screenplay is based on a story by Peter Perg, Matt Cook, Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson. The movie is produced by Scott Stuber, Mark Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky. As recently reported, Academy & Grammy Award-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl) will compose the score for the film.

An account of the Boston Marathon bombing, Patriots Day} is the powerful story of a community's courage in the face of terror. In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.

Launching later this year, The Patriots Day Charity Challenge is a fundraising competition to support the survivors of the Boston Marathon. CBS Films and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) today announced the Patriots Day Charity Challenge, a nonprofit initiative that will empower people across the country to honor select first responders, medical professionals and survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Beginning today, charities throughout the greater Boston area are invited to visit the campaign's CrowdRise page (http://www.crowdrise.com/PatriotsDayApplication) for the details and to sign up and potentially take part. The Patriots Day Charity Challenge will kick off later this year with a $100,000.00 main prize challenge as well as surprise bonus challenges and will run through the film's opening weekend. The cast, filmmakers and studios behind the film Patriots Day will be supporting this effort with both financial contributions and special prizing.

CrowdRise Challenges are innovative fundraising competitions for charitable organizations designed to build capacity, create massive engagement and leverage, and use the power of the crowd to provide meaningful funding for organizations in every sector.
