Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has clarified the status of her involvement in the proposed Star Wars spinoff, Rogue Squadron, and reveals in a statement that the project is still in development. Taking to social media, Jenkins has released a statement in response to the various reports claiming that she was the reason why both Rogue Squadron and Wonder Woman 3 are no longer happening. See what Jenkins said about the Star Wars movie below.

“I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 any further. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead.”

The sudden cancelation of DC sequel Wonder Woman 3 was followed by industry insiders claiming that it was Patty Jenkins’ approach to the project which resulted in it being pulled. Further reports have since claimed that this was similar for Rogue Squadron. Noted insider Jeff Sneider revealed that he had heard Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was “a mess” saying, "I’ve heard some things about Patty Jenkins. I’ve heard she’s a nightmare. I’m sorry, I hate to be the guy who’s calling a woman a name, I get it, oh my God! But listen, I’ve said that about countless male directors, too. I’ve heard that everything that she turned in with Wonder Woman 3 was like, you know, a mess. I heard [that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron] was a mess."

Clearly, Patty Jenkins does not agree with this analysis, with the filmmaker stating unequivocally that she is still attached to Rogue Squadron, and while she does not know if it will definitely go ahead, the Star Wars spinoff is in development.

While details regarding Star Wars: Rogue Squadron are thin, the project was expected to take inspiration from a series of arcade-style action video games of the same name which began in the late 1990s for Nintendo consoles. Thus, Rogue Squadron would have introduced a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.

Initially scheduled for release this time next year, Rogue Squadron was removed from the Disney release schedule back in September, with President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy having also confirmed that the movie had been “pushed off to the side for the moment” while “Patty is developing the script further.”
