Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has signed on to produce 20th Century Fox's animated comedy Peanuts, under his first-look producing deal with the studio. This will be the first animated feature for the filmmaker, who spoke about his love for Charles M. Schulz's characters in a statement.

"Growing up, Peanuts was my Star Wars. Charles M. Schulz's characters influenced everything in my career, especially Freaks and Geeks. I'm thrilled I finally get to be pals with Charlie Brown and Snoopy."

Craig Schulz, the son of the Peanuts creator, added his own statement.

"As we continue on our creative journey to bring my father's characters to life, collaborating with a talent like Paul is a great step forward. Knowing how Peanuts, especially Charlie Brown's never-give-up-attitude, has influenced him throughout his life makes this partnership even more meaningful."

Steve Martino (Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who) is directing from a script by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, who will also serve as producers. No story details were given, but it will feature classic Peanuts characters such as Charlie Brown, Snoopy and many more.

Paul Feig most recently directed The Heat for 20th Century Fox. His next project is the spy comedy Susan Cooper, starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham.
