CBS Films is negotiating the remake rights to director Daniel Monzón's Spanish language Celda 211, and is talking with Paul Haggis to adapt and direct the English-language version, Cell 211, according to Deadline.

The action thriller centers on a newly hired prison guard who wants to make a good impression on his bosses, when he leaves behind his pregnant wife and comes in a day early to get a tour of the facility. When a brutal prison riot breaks out, he is knocked unconscious and when he awakens, the guard is forced to assume the role of a prisoner alongside the most dangerous killers alive. He tries to defuse the uprising and escape before the prisoners realize who he really is.

The original Celda 211 was released in 2009, and won Best Film, Best Director and Screenplay honors for Daniel Monzón, plus five other awards at the Goya Awards (Spanish Oscars). Check out the trailer for the original below!
