After having to work late on the night of August 2nd, 2006, a man by the name of Robert Wone, who was employed by a news organization called Radio Free Asia, decided to spend the night at a friend’s house instead of coming home to his wife at a very late hour and waking her up from sleep. Mr. Wone arrived at the doorstep of Joseph Price’s home around ten thirty in the evening. Just about one and a half hours later, the thirty-two-year-old lawyer and husband was fatally stabbed and officially pronounced dead sometime later that same evening. With his murder still unsolved, NBCUniversal has decided to reintroduce this investigation to the public through a new documentary released this past week.

Releasing exclusively onto the digital streaming platform Peacock as two one-hour-long documentary episodes, Who Killed Robert Wone? follows the numerous and head-turning bizarre events that immediately took place following the alleged homicide as well as all the mysterious proceedings following that day. One could say that the unusual night begins right when Robert Wone arrives at the premises. Not only is Mr. Price home, but his live-in domestic partner, Victor Zaborsky, is there, plus a man by the name of Dylan Ward.

Even though Mr. Zaborsky sounds very distressed and traumatized when he makes the call to the 911 operator upon discovering the dead body, the opposite occurs when the paramedics arrive on the scene. Not only do the three men show very neutral body language, but the polyamorous gay family seemed to have also just hopped out of the shower right around the same time that the authorities came to the door, seeing how one’s hair was all slicked back as well as each of them all wearing a bright white robe. Not only that, but the trio seemed to corroborate a stellar story about a random intruder committing the murder when no forthcoming evidence at the time pointed to that being the case.

Using the momentum of other true-crime documentaries that have recently been released, such as HBO's Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty and Peacock’s own John Wayne Gacy: Devil In Disguise, there is hope that the unanswered questions presented in this production will spur some viewers in helping to find the guarded truth behind this deadly conundrum. Interviews featured throughout Who Killed Robert Wone? that will ultimately benefit the audience form their own conclusion were conducted with names like federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner and criminal defense attorney Bernie Grimm who were both actively involved with this case fourteen years ago, albeit on different sides. Discussions between the filmmakers themselves and friends of the deceased Mr. Wone’s were also highlighted in the film, giving viewers an insight into his positive impact on those around him. As you can tell, this overall mystery that originated in Washington, D.C., has been given a much-needed second life through the eyes of entertained true-crime fans and documentary enthusiasts. As the presentation moves forward and more harrowing details are revealed about the people involved, the audience learns that the situation becomes stranger than fiction. The defense prosecutor, as well as everybody on the side of the criminal justice system, starts to believe that the guest bedroom in which Robert Wone was staying was made to look a certain way before the first paramedic arrived at the location, the alleged murder weapon was modified in a specific way to make it look like it was used during the event and that according to sniffer dogs who brought in by law enforcement officers, evidential items were washed and cleaned neatly before the proper authorities were called. Due to these deductions and a cache of adult-related items found in the million-dollar home, the examination of Robert Wone was now not only being looked at as a murder but also as a possible sexual assault.

With the trio of Robert Price, Victor Zaborsky, and Dylan Ward being brought in on obstruction of justice charges in late 2008 all the way from their new residence in Miami-Dade County, Florida, the impending court case was consequently treated by outsiders as a murder trial without explicitly being labeled as such.

Piecing together an unsolved murder mystery and placing it all inside an entertainment production is no easy feat. But with the creators of Who Killed Robert Wone? being multiple award-winning producer Jared P. Scott, producer and editor of numerous other popular true crime presentations like Serial Killer Capital: Baton Rouge and Homicide Hunter: Devil In The Mountains, Patrick Reardon, and story producer behind a long-running series on the TLC Network called Say Yes To The Dress named Eric Wetherington, no surprise should be had concerning the documentary’s uncanny grip on viewers.
