With production scheduled to begin later this month on the Netflix feature Pee-wee's Big Holiday, actress Tara Buck has joined the cast alongside Paul Reubens, who will reprise his iconic role as Pee-wee Herman. No details were given for Tara Buck's role at this time, but our report from last month revealed the plot follows "a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger that inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny." Netflix will release the feature film on its streaming service, but no release date has been given at this time.

Paul Reubens and Paul Rust wrote the screenplay, with John Lee making his feature directorial debut. The filmmaker directed several episodes of Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer, and he also created the Adult Swim series The Heart, She Holler. Judd Apatow is producing Pee-wee's Big Holiday.

Paul Reubens created his Pee-wee Herman character in 1981 while performing with the Los Angeles-based improv troupe The Groundlings. He brought the character to an HBO special, which lead to the 1985 feature Pee-wee's Big Adventure, which marked the directorial debut of Tim Burton. The TV series Pee-wee's Playhouse debuted one year later in 1986, winning 22 Emmys during its five-year run. Tara Buck is best known for playing Ginger on HBO's True Blood. She has also appeared on Nip/Tuck, Justified, Longmire and Backstrom.
