Ryan Reynolds met Peloton Commercial Girl Monica Ruiz for the first time during a new interview. Ruiz has seen some pretty radical changes in her life over the past few weeks. First, there was the now-infamous Peloton ad that caused quite the backlash online. Ruiz plays a wife whose husband buys her an exercise bike for Christmas. The internet blew up over the commercial, which is when Reynolds and his Aviation Gin company stepped in and made a parody, which stars Ruiz.

Though Monica Ruiz was in the Aviation Gin parody commercial, she did not meet Ryan Reynolds until her interview earlier this morning. Reynolds was clearly excited to meet the actress and thanked her for doing the commercial, which quickly went viral, much like the original Peloton ad. Reynolds had this to say about the origins of the idea.

"It started with a text to my creative partner George Dewey. He sent me the ad, I watched it and I went 'Oh why, I see why there's some backlash.' So I said 'Can we just send her a year's supply of gin? She doesn't have to film herself.' And that sort of evolved from there."

As for Monica Ruiz, she initially didn't want to do the Aviation Gin commercial out of fear that it would make people think even worse of Peloton. The same can be said about taking interviews. Ruiz was asked by the Today Show five times before she agreed to come on. She later saw what Ryan Reynolds and Aviation were trying to achieve, so she decided to say yes to the ad. Reynolds went on to talk about how the gin commercial took shape and why. He explains.

"We love acknowledging and playing with the cultural landscape and we thought this was a great opportunity to do something. You see how everything is sort of divisive these days, one camp here, one camp there, but we had this thought that we could do this ad without contributing to that divide, without vilifying anybody, just sort of commenting on both the person and the actress in the ad all at once. So for us it seemed like a no brainer, and it was a lot of fun to do. It was a rush, we did this thing in 36 hours."

Monica Ruiz responded by saying, "I'm like in an alternate universe right now, this is so weird." It has to be pretty weird to take on a commercial and have it blow up like that overnight. It led to the actress sitting next to the Deadpool star on live TV. For Ruiz, she felt that now was the right time to speak up because people were speaking on her behalf, often not getting the facts straight.

Peloton lost nearly $1 billion because of the backlash surrounding the commercial. However, they still stand by their product and its ad, claiming the exercise bike can still change lives for the better. Whatever the case may be, it has certainly changed Monica Ruiz's life for the better, though not in the way anybody originally thought it would.
