We have the first trailer for Pennyworth season 2. The DC series debuted last year and gave us a new version of Batman's faithful friend and butler Alfred that we had never seen. The show takes a look at Alfred in his youth during his early days with Thomas Wayne. Now, we have our first look at the sophomore season, which debuted during New York Comic Con's virtual event over the weekend, and it reveals a December premiere date.

The teaser is quite brief. We catch up with Jack Bannon's Alfred, who is looking to make his way to America. Arkham Asylum gets a name drop and there is quite a bit of action and gunfire packed into the taste of footage. Were it not for the Arkham reference, one would hardly recognize this as a DC show.

Bruno Heller serves as executive producer/writer of the series, with Danny Cannon on board as executive producer/director. Season 2 is bringing in new series regulars including James Purefoy (The Following), Edward Hogg (White Lightning), Jessye Romeo (In the Long Run), Ramon Tikaram (The Victim) and Harriet Slater (Faunutland and the Lost Magic). Returning cast members include Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), Dorothy Atkinson (Mr. Turner), Polly Walker (Rome), Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and musician Paloma Faith.

Pennyworth season 2 kicked off production in the U.K. in January with filming taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Unfortunately, as has been the case with many shows this year, production was forced to shut down in March over health and safety concerns. Filming has since picked back up again. But, with the second half of the season still filming, there will be a gap, with the rest of the episodes expected to air sometime in 2021. Bruno Heller had this to say about how the delay and new protocols will impact the upcoming episodes.

"It allowed us to work on the scripts, fully and properly. Which, in TV, is a great luxury. But, on the other hand, getting back up again, it's really about finding a way of working within the protocols that makes sense, that makes for a better show. On the one hand, you can't have big crowds but on the other hand, you can really work intensely with actors on specific scenes. For me, it feels much more like doing a stage play. Not in terms of the spectacle that we'll end up offering, but in terms of the way you can work with people."

Pennyworth follows Bruce Wayne's legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon). He is a former British soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) in 1960's London. The show is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. The Pennyworth season2 premiere will air on December 13. It will be followed episode two on December 20, with a two-part mid-season finale set for December 27 on Epix. Be sure to check out the trailer for yourself.
