Rick Riordan’s Greek-themed book series - Percy Jackson and the Olympians - is one of the best young adult series out there – everything from gods and monsters to the sassiest yet most charming protagonist ever written. The Percy Jackson series is beloved by readers of all ages, some who grew up with the books and those who are reading them now, and has since seen the characters grow and branch out into other series. But even with the incredible source material, the franchise has received several adaptations that have been met with mixed feelings, including a questionable Broadway musical.

Rick Riordan has fought tooth and nail to give his books the adaptation they deserve, and so far, Disney+ has delivered exactly that with the series Percy Jackson of the Olympians. Now halfway through its first season, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is already the strongest adaptation of Riordan's books and truly captures the essence of the characters and tone of the story. While the Disney+ series has already translated some of the best moments from the first book to our screens, there are still four books worth of material to comb through, ad so many amazing moments we're desperate to see in the series - be it in the current season, or in future seasons.

Here are just a few things dedicated readers and viewers hope to see in future episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Grover Talking to Animals

Percy’s best friend and guardian, Grover, is a satyr with many unique abilities, including talking to animals. This is an element that got pretty overlooked in the movies. However, the new series appears to be paying more attention. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth are on their way to meet Hades, who they blame for starting a war among the gods but soon run out of money. They meet a pink poodle who Grover talks to and asks for help; the poodle tells them it ran away from home but that its owner has a nice reward out for its return and says that the trio can bring it home to claim the money for their journey.

Everyone loves some wholesome animal content, and Grover’s abilities help the story more than he’s often given credit for. Having moments like these in the series would give his character more agency and make him more than just a sidekick, which is honestly what he deserves. So far, the series has done a good job developing Grover, and he was already seen talking to cows early on, so this is one element that we hopefully will see more of in the series.

The Mist and Iris-Messaging

These underlying parts of the world of the Olympians were not properly adapted into the film versions, although the series greatly expands the world-building and sticks much closer to Riordan's source material. One element that was overlooked in the movies was the Mist, a magical force that protects all things mythical from the eyes of average humans and comes from the powers of the goddess Hecate. The Mist has been shown and hinted at in the first few episodes of the series, but there is more to get into with each entry.

Then there’s the funny demigod version of DM'ing – or, as they know it, Iris-Messaging– in which they can have a face-to-face call via water and rainbows thanks to the messenger goddess Iris. This method of communication also hasn’t been used in an adaptation, even though it is constantly used throughout multiple series by Rick Riordan (since, as readers will know, Greek gods aren’t the only ones out there).

Both of these details, which create a much more grounded world of demigods and the mythology they're surrounded by, would help audiences get a better grasp on the world and story they’re diving into. Plus, it would be a great way to use some really cool special effects in the show for something other than just powers.

Stabbing the God of War

There are plenty of stories and depictions of the gods of war throughout modern pop culture, all of them showing just how ferocious and terrifying they can be. The same goes for the Greek god Ares, who often appears in mortal form in the books as some form of scary biker or other fearsome figure. Ares is not one to be trifled with, but when it’s revealed that Ares was the one who started the war among the gods, Percy challenges him to a fight. Even though Percy is a twelve-year-old boy still getting the hang of his abilities, that doesn’t stop him from fighting for what he knows is right.

During their duel, Percy manages to cut Ares’ heel with his sword, Riptide, and the god of war flees. This moment from the books would be great to see in the series, not only for the fight choreography - which has already been impressive in past episodes - but also because it highlights Percy’s morality and willingness to fight for the people and things he cares about, even if he is seemingly out-muscled. Ares is confirmed to be in the Dinsey+ series, played by Adam Copeland, more commonly known by his wrestler name, The Edge. This is a moment that could happen with the series pretty soon.

Thalia's Awakening

Thalia is a name that has already been mentioned in the new series, with Annabeth telling Percy how the daughter of Zeus sadly lost her life trying to get to Camp Half-Blood. However, casual viewers of the series can't begin to imagine how important the character is to the future of the series. Thalia's awakening is a moment we have seen on the big screen before. At the end of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Thalia was teased waking, with the character then expected to have a larger role in future films - though those films were never made.

As the demi-god daughter of Zeus - the most powerful God in the Greek pantheon - Thalia drastically alters Percy's path when she awakes from her 'coma' at the end of the second book, as well as altering the balance of power among the Gods, with their now being two demi-god children of the Big Three out in the world, Thalia also how the unique power of altering the Mist, and uses it to trick humans and protect her friends across their quests.

There are a lot of things that fans are hoping this Disney+ series will get right this time, as well as these moments and more that we want to make it in. The Percy Jackson books have so much wit and charm, as well as hilarious and heartfelt moments and intense battles and monsters. There’s a lot to love in the books, and hopefully, the show will be able to bring all its best qualities and moments to life.
