Deadline is reporting that Andrew Macdonald's DNA Films has teamed with India-based Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global to develop Judge Dredd, a 3D film scripted by Alex Garland, and to be directed by Pete Travis.

Macdonald skipped over 1995's Sylvester Stallone-starring Judge Dredd and went back to the franchise's roots to the UK comic created by John Wagner and illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra.

Judge Dredd is set in a futuristic world filled with violence, and the character is empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner.

The film is budgeted at under $50 million.
