An August Vanity Fair article about Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, written by Buzz Bissinger, is going to be turned into a feature film by Universal Pictures. According to Variety, Peter Berg is going to direct the drama, entitled Gone Like the Wind.

The plot revolves around the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, whom everyone thought was a lock for winning the Triple Crown. Sadly, tragedy befell the horse during the Preakness, when she bolted out of the gate and shattered one of her rear forelegs. You'll have to get your hankies out for this one, folks. Eight months after the accident, and numerous attempts to keep the horse alive, Barbaro had to be euthanized.

Director Berg is Bissinger's cousin. They plan on going into production on Gone Like the Wind before the end of the year.
