According to Variety, Barbra Streisand and her Barwood Films have joined the Gary Smith Co. and Sonny Murray in acquiring the rights to "Mendel's Dwarf" and have set Peter Dinklage to topline.

The novel, by Simon Mawer, centers on the life and work of Dr. Ben Lambert, a scientist who struggles to unravel the genetic secrets of achondroplasia (dwarfism) as well as his entangled relationship with a woman.

Sonny Murray is scripting. Dinklage's film and TV credits include "The Station Agent," "Just A Kiss" and "Human Nature." He also starred in "Richard III" at Gotham's Public Theater.
