"He's cruel. Evil. "He's Captain Hook." A newly released clip from the upcoming Disney live action remake, Peter Pan & Wendy, introduces Academy Award nominee Jude Law as the latest iteration of the classic literary villain, Captain James Hook. Released courtesy of Disney+, the clip features a bunch of new footage as well as insights from the actor himself about how he hopes to bring the iconic bad guy to life. Check out the clip from Peter Pan & Wendy below.

“This story has had such impact. It's so deep in our DNA now,” Law begins. “So, to play a character as iconic as Captain Hook is everything you look for.” After receiving praise from Peter Pan & Wendy director David Lowery, Law revealed how he approached playing the character and making him different to the many other versions that audiences have seen in the past. “To me, what made this Hook interesting was trying to understand how he became Captain Hook. And why this feud started,” he says.

Directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks (The Green Knight), Peter Pan & Wendy is led by Alexander Molony (The Reluctant Landlord) and Ever Anderson (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Black Widow) as Peter Pan and Wendy Darling. The rest of the cast includes Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) as Tinker Bell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily, Joshua Pickering (A Discovery of Witches) as John Darling, Jacobi Jupe as Michael Darling, Molly Parker (House of Cards) as Mary Darling, Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as George Darling, Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show) as Mr. Smee and, of course, Jude Law (Captain Marvel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) as Captain Hook.

A live-action reimagining of the J.M. Barrie novel and the 1953 animated classic, Peter Pan & Wendy introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl looking to avoid boarding school who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.

Despite helming such deep and dark movies as The Green Knight, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, and A Ghost Story, director David Lowery recently promised that he will not give the “dark and gritty” treatment to the world of Pan. "As a Peter Pan film, it's not going to surprise anyone who knows the original material. It's very fun and it's funny,” the filmmaker explained. “If it's grounded, it's only because we were trying to shoot on location, build all of our sets, and have everything feel like a real place. I always value the idea that Neverland is a place that a child could actually get to. As to whether it's a dark and gritty version of Peter Pan… it's not."

Peter Pan & Wendy is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ next week on April 28, 2023.
