Picturehouse picked up the rights to the Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez dance film, El Cantante.

The real-life couple plays legendary salsa couple Hector and Puchi Lavoe, notes Variety. Hector Lavoe, considered the godfather of modern salsa, became a hero to a generation of Latinos in the U.S. and Puerto Rico before he died more than a decade ago. But he also was plagued by problems with addiction. Movie depicts the couple as leading a whirlwind but tragic life, with their only child dying in a gun accident.

El Contante is set for a July 2007 release.
