Pig director Michael Sarnoski is in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to direct a spin-off to John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place. The currently untitled film is based on an original idea by Krasinski and takes place in the same world as A Quiet Place. As per Deadline, Paramount is planning a shared universe around the 2018 horror film, which was inevitable considering both A Quiet Place and its 2021 sequel proved to be huge critical and commercial hits for the studio.

Previously, Midnight Special director Jeff Nichols was attached to the project but amicably departed last October to direct another high-profile sci-fi film for Paramount Pictures. No details regarding the A Quiet Place spin-off have been released; however, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski aren’t expected to reprise their roles. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller are on board as producers, along with John Krasinski, who is producing via his Sunday Night Productions banner. Judging by how quickly the studio found a replacement for Nichols, it looks like A Quiet Place spin-off is a high-priority film for Paramount.

Michael Sarnoski rose to fame directing the terrific 2021 drama Pig, starring Nicolas Cage in the lead, and subsequently revived the Ghost Rider star’s career in the process. Granted, Cage has delivered some fantastic movies in the last few years, like Joe, Mandy, and Color Out of Space, but he took it to a whole new level with his sorrowful and touching performance in Pig, playing a truffle forager searching for his beloved pig. He is creating Oscar buzz these days, and Cage credits Sarnoski for all the acclaim, even referring to him as "Archangel Michael."

"I knew after a couple of flops that I had been marginalized in the studio system; and I wasn’t going to get invited by them," Cage says. "I always knew that it would take a young filmmaker who would come back or remember some movies I had made and know that I might be right for his script and rediscover me. And that’s why he’s not just Michael, he’s Archangel Michael. This wouldn’t be happening if he didn’t have the open mind to say, ‘Come with me.’"

A Quiet Place 3 Is In Early Development

A Quiet Place 2 - streaming release

When A Quiet Place came out in 2018, nobody could have predicted that this low-profile horror film would gross over $350 million worldwide. The film starred Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as a couple trying to survive and raise their children in a post-apocalyptic world where fearsome aliens hunt by sound. Boasting a nerve-racking score and relentless tension, A Quiet Place quickly became a horror phenomenon. Its sequel, A Quiet Place Part II ended up being a critical hit and broke several pandemic-era box office records.

John Krasinski soon confirmed that he has ideas for the threequel but wasn’t ready to commit as director. A Quiet Place Part II ended on an open note, teasing more sequels. With the success of the first two films and the amazing audience reception, it’s almost certain we will get to see A Quiet Place 3. But when? That remains unknown. For now, we’ll have to suffice with Michael Sarnoski’s vision. Who knows, perhaps Blunt and Krasinski show up for a cameo.

The untitled A Quiet Place spin-off was originally scheduled for release on March 31, 2023, but that could change now. Hopefully, Sarnoski will deliver a film as outstanding as his directorial debut, Pig.
