Deadline reports that Dimension Films has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw 3D) to write Piranha 3DD, a sequel to last summer's Piranha 3D, with John Gulager aboard to directing. The move will reunite all three from the 2006 Dimension monster thriller Feast.

Dimension is moving fast to get the sequel into theaters by August of 2011. The writers will have to turn in a draft within the next four weeks to make this ambitious release date. While most of the cast in Piranha 3D died, it is said that the few survivors could return along with a couple of new "surprise" guest stars.

We first reported on this sequel back in August, just a few weeks after Piranha 3D hit theaters. It was rumored, at the time, that the movie would take place in Thailand, at an epic party event that is said to attract more than 200,000 partygoers each year.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on the tentatively titled Piranha 3DD as soon as we have more information.
