Just one month after Brenton Thwaites signed on for a pivotal role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disney is currently seeking actresses for the female lead. Lucy Boynton, Gabriella Wilde, Jenna Thiam, Kaya Scodelario and Alexandra Dowling are among the actresses set to test for the role over the next week. Details on the character are scarce, but she is said to be the love interest for Brenton Thwaites' character, a young British soldier who joins forces with Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow.

The actresses will all perform in chemistry reads with Brenton Thwaites to see who is best for the role, although it isn't known when a final decision on the part is set to be made. After being eyed for the villain back in October, Variety reports that Javier Bardem is now on board to play the villain, Captain Brand, a ghost who seeks out Captain Jack Sparrow to avenge the death of his brother.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) are directing from a script by Jeff Nathanson, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin in early 2015, with Disney already setting a July 7, 2017 release date. Lucy Boynton is best known for her role in Miss Potter, while Gabriella Wilde recently starred in the Carrie remake and Endless Love. Jenna Thiam starred in the hit French series The Returned, while Kaya Scodelario recently starrred in the young adult adaptation The Maze Runner and the upcoming sequel The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. Alexandra Dowling starred in the British TV series The Musketeers and Hammer of the Gods.
