Rock and roll lovers, assemble! The Sex Pistols, one of the prominent bands of the punk rock movement that took the world's eyes, minds, and clothes during the '70s, is getting their own limited series! Titled Pistol, the mini-series is created by Oscar-winner director Danny Boyle and is set to launch on various streaming services worldwide.

The Sex Pistols have already been featured in TV and cinema before, such as 1986's Sid & Nancy, starring Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious, the group's bassist. The film focused on his relationship with Nancy Spungen (played by Chloe Webb), a fan of the band and figure in the '70s rock scene. The 2000s documentary The Filth and the Fury was directed by Julien Temple, who worked as a director of some Sex Pistols' videos.

But, the difference with Pistol is that its story will be based on guitarist Steve Jones' journey as a member of one of the biggest punk bands in the world. Let's take a look at everything we know about Pistol so far!

Pistol is a series inspired by Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, Steve Jones' memoir released in 2016. In the book, Jones details the early stages of the Sex Pistols, when he and Paul Cook formed Kutie Jones and his Sex Pistols. This group would become the Sex Pistols. Lonely Boy goes into how they were taken under the wings of Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood and how they were part of the '70s rock 'n roll revolution along with Ramones, MC5, Patti Smith, and other punk rock artists.

The series will take a look not only at the impact that the group had on the rock scene — their first and only album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, is ranked number 41 in Rolling Stone magazine's Best Albums of All Time — but in the lives of its members: Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, vocalist Johnny Rotten, and bassist Glen Matlock, who was replaced in early 1977. Sid Vicious replaced Glen and is seen as one of the faces of the punk movement is also a focus.

The series' official synopsis reads:

"Pistol is a six-episode limited series about a rock and roll revolution. The furious, raging storm at the center of this revolution are the Sex Pistols — and at the center of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones. Jones’ hilarious, emotional and at times heart-breaking journey guides us through a kaleidoscopic telling of three of the most epic, chaotic and mucus-spattered years in the history of music. Based on Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, this is the story of a band of spotty, noisy, working-class kids with ‘no future, who shook the boring, corrupt Establishment to its core, threatened to bring down the government and changed music and culture forever."
