Longtime Saturday Night Live writer Tim Herlihy has signed on to write Pixels, the adaptation of the popular Internet short, for Adam Sandler's Happy Madison and Columbia, reports Heat Vision. Check out the original short below.

Pixels was one of the Internet shorts that garnered Hollywood buzz earlier in the year and depicted 1980s video game characters attacking New York City.

Happy Madison approached the short's writer-director, Patrick Jean, when it saw the potential to make a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.
