Following the first Pixels trailer, which was watched by 34.3 million viewers in 24 hours last month, Sony Pictures has unveiled the second trailer for the upcoming summer adventure, arriving in theaters July 24. Pixels is loosely based on the 2010 short film of the same name by Patrick Jean, which showed New York City being engulfed by 8-bit video game pixels. The adaptation takes this premise to a whole new level, as the world is being destroyed by the classic 1980s video games we know and love.
As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie "The Fire Blaster" Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times - at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they're going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults -- and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
This trailer also gives us a new look at Ashley Benson's Lady Lisa, a video game character who is brought to life, with Jane Krakowski, Sean Bean, Brian Cox and Lainie Kazan rounding out the supporting cast. Chris Columbus directs this action-adventure, which, judging by the amount of people who watched the first trailer, could be one of this summer's biggest hits. Check out the latest trailer below, and stay tuned for more on Pixels as we get closer to the July 24 release date.
