Gruff action star Gerard Butler is back, and this time, he’s joined by Luke Cage star Mike Colter in the first trailer for the upcoming action thriller outing, Plane. Released courtesy of Lionsgate, the trailer teases this action-hero team-up, with Plane finding Butler and Colter punching, kicking, and stabbing their way through a band of kidnappers after crash landing on an island. Check out the trailer for Plane below.

Plane promises to be a white-knuckle action thrill ride and begins when pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island - only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s help, and will learn there’s more to Gaspare than meets the eye.

Plane will clearly find both Gerard Butler and Mike Colter doing what they do best – dispatching bad guys – with the pair of action heroes bringing a sense of mismatched buddy shenanigans as they navigate their way through an increasingly violent situation. And all in the name of our entertainment.

Directed by Assault on Precinct 13 and Blood Father’s Jean-François Richet and written by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis, Plane stars Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Dominion), Yoson An (Mulan), Remi Adeleke (Transformers: The Last Knight), Haleigh Hekking (Action Royale), Lilly Krug (Every Breath You Take), Joey Slotnick (The Blacklist), Oliver Trevena (While We Sleep), and newcomer Kelly Gale alongside Gerard Butler and Mike Colter.

Plane is just one of several action outings on the horizon for Gerard Butler. The actor is all set to bring back two of his most beloved characters, beginning with Detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien in a sequel to Den of Thieves. "We're supposed to shoot early next year. We're Europe-bound, we're still on the hunt for Donnie who's now on the diamond district in Marseilles,” Butler has said of the plans for the follow-up. “I go over to hunt him down, but with different intentions than you might imagine. So we're gonna be in Marseilles, the Alps and London - it's definitely a more glamorous journey than the last one, and probably a more fun, sexy journey."

Next up is Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, with Butler due to reprise the role of the unstoppable action her for Angel Has Fallen sequel Night Has Fallen. "I think with everything going on, we need him. He needs to come back,” Butler said of Banning’s return back in 2020.

Finally, Butler will once again navigate his way through a post-apocalypse in a sequel to the 2020 disaster flick, Greenland. Titled Greenland: Migration, the story will pick up where the first movie let off, reintroducing the Garrity family, who survived a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits the earth, and must now leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.

Plane is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on January 27, 2023, by Lionsgate.
