Alcon Entertainment has hired director Ericson Core to helm an upcoming reboot of the 1991 action thriller Point Break.

Kathryn Bigelow directed the original film, which starred Keanu Reeves as a FBI agent. He and his partner go undercover to get to the bottom of a string of bank robberies by a gang known as the Ex-Presidents.

This rendition will be set in the world of extreme sports and will be in the same vein as the original. The story will follow an undercover FBI agent, who infiltrates a criminal syndicate. Plot specifics are being held under wraps.

Ericson Core is best known for directing Invincible, which starred Mark Wahlberg. Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Daniel Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer are producing.

Production is scheduled to begin at the end of this year.
